Slano is barely 30 km away from Dubrovnik in the county of Dubrovnik-Neretva, which is the southmost Croatian county. The location itself is quite impressive, the town is in a 2 km long gulf. It’s a quiet and historical place. The population is under 600. As a port, it’s significant, as it can be the starting point of many wonderful trips to nearby islands, with boat and yacht rental services.
Slano is a small treasure chest of Croatia, with pleasant weather, white shore, and crystal-clear water, all of this located in the stunning, untouched nature. Mediterranean plants and carob trees cast shadows on the pebbly sand of the beautiful beach. Far away from the noise of the city, this place is ideal for relaxation. The village is in a gulf, which is safe for boats in case of poor weather.
Small boats (under a certain horsepower or length), electric boats, crewed yacht charters, gulet charters may not require a license. Larger boats or those with more powerful engines need a skipper’s license. Before you confirm your sailing trip to Trogir, please send us a copy and we will check it for you. In 2014 a marina for 200 sailboats was built to improve sailing in the region. Since it‘s the southmost county of Dalmatia, it’s an optimal choice to rent a boat or yacht. From Slano all of South Dalmatia is approachable. If you wish for more, you should head to Peljesac Peninsula, which is the largest peninsula in Dalmatia, and the second-largest one in Croatia after the Istrian Peninsula. Mostly local yachts stay in the port of Lopud. The water depth is 1.5-5 m. There are just a few temporary berths for shorter stays with a depth of 6.5 m. The huge traffic of yachts and ferries triggers strong seawater movements so check the tightness of your anchor. Moreover, it is important to keep a distance from the pier by casting an anchor.

Koločep ferry port lies 8 km from Dubrovnik. You can drop your anchor here. The water depth is 2-7 m. The water bottom is sandy and full of seaweed.
This well-equipped marina is 6 km from the old town of Dubrovnik. As you would expect, it is open all year round. It possesses 425 berths in the water and 140 on the land. The berths are able to accept a maximum 60 m long yacht.
This port is located North-West 3 km from the old town of Dubrovnik near Gruz. There are restaurants, cafés, gift shops, exchange offices and banks nearby. You can even rent a car here. The port of Cavtat can be found in the western part of the old city, east of the Sustjepan peninsula. It can accommodate boats as long as 60 metres. Sobra is the main ferry port where yachts can anchor at the V-shaped pier. The depth of the water is 4-5 metres. They offer fuel, and if you get hungry, you can go to Konoba Lanterna nearby. The only inconvenience you might have is the northeastern and southern winds in the wide bay.
Port of Polače can be found on the North-West part of the island of Mljet. The island lies near Dubrovnik, Korčula Island, and the Pelješac peninsula divided by the Mljet canal. Polače lies in the territory of the Mljet National park; it is, actually, an entrance of the park. You can find here a travel agency, food stores and a lot of diners. For getting ashore go to the North-West part of the bay. The water depth for berths is 3-4 m. Although by the Roman castle ruins it is only 2-3 m.
The pier is mostly occupied by local yachts. The permanent berths are between the pier and the beach. The depth of the water is 1-3.9 m. Watch out for strong summer winds.
The harbour is located in Lumbarda Bay, in a wonderful natural environment. It accommodates 115 yachts, up to 25-30 metres in length. The depth is 8 metres. It has water, electricity and a shower; There is also a bar, a restaurant and a supermarket nearby. The harbour is open to sailors all year round.
The harbour of the picturesque town of Korčula has 159 berths for yachts up to 45 metres long. The depth is 5 metres. There is Wi-Fi, laundry, gas station, ship maintenance is also provided. The harbour on the southern side of the Pelješac peninsula can accommodate 220 yachts, up to 12 metres in length. The depth is 2 metres. Lovište is located in a beautiful bay at the northwestern end of the Pelješac Peninsula. Its harbour offers 20 berths for yachts up to 20 metres long. The settlement is also a popular stop for sailors due to its rich gastronomic offer. The delicious dishes are based on the excellent Dalmatian fish specialities.

Also, don’t forget to visit the city of Ston which is home to the biggest and most famous shellfish farm in the country. We recommend Slano if you’re not looking for the cities from the guidebooks. Instead, you’d rather see an authentic, untouched side of the Adriatic region. It is the perfect location to dock for just a day, but if you find the atmosphere of this small town catchy, it provides several days’ worth of programmes.
The town has a genuine Adriatic atmosphere. The landscape of pure nature, narrow streets, stone houses, and Mediterranean trees is wonderful. It’s a place where you can let time stop for a while. Beaches along the gulf are divided into shorter sections, most of them are pebble ones. The water deepens slowly and gradually. You can find smaller cafés and romantic terraces all along the seaside, and even a very exclusive restaurant called Nono Restoran. The terrace of the houses directly faces the pier, so if you come by yacht, the special and delicious local dishes are just a few steps away.
The most remarkable historical sights are the parish church of Saint Blaise built-in 1758. The Franciscan church and monastery from which the whole town is visible. And finally, the Governor’s palace which they rebuilt after the French occupation.
