Location of Garda

Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy. It is located between the Alps and the Po Valley, on the border shared by the Tentino-Alto Adige, Lombardia and Veneto regions. Its territory is 369.98 square kilometres. The maximum length is 51.6 kilometres, its maximum width is 17.5 kilometres and its shoreline is 158.4 kilometres. Its water is extremely deep. The average depth is 65 meters, while the deepest point is 346 meters.

Climate in Garda

At Lake Garda, the climate is a mixture of Mediterranean and hillside climate. In the southern regions, the climate and the water are warmer. The frequent winds provide perfect conditions for us to sail on the lake at any time. The Ora blows from the south the east, from late morning to late afternoon. The Pelèr, on the other hand, blows from the north to the south, from early morning to noon. Its local and transverse wind is the Ponal, which comes from the direction of the Ledro Valley, and blows along the river that has the same name.

Summers are hot and sunny, but we should expect frequent showers. The storms are heavy, accompanied by strong winds and hails. In Salo, there is a heavy amount of precipitation. The temperature at Lake Garda from June to August is around 20°C. The temperature and the water is more pleasant in the southern region than in the northern one. The ideal period for visiting is from the spring to early summer, but a trip in September may also be a good idea.

Main sights in Garda

The Varona Waterfall is near Lake Garda, 5 kilometres from Riva del Garda. Thanks to its unique microclimate, we can observe the flowering of several special plants. The Upper Cave can be accessed on 115 stairs. The waterfall stemming from the Magnone River, which originates from Lake Tenno, is 98 meters high.

Sirmione is one of the most beautiful places on the southern parts of Lake Garda. It has a great pebbly-rocky beach, and it is also famous for its thermal springs, which have a great healing effect.

You must definitely try the most popular Italian food, pizza, regardless of which part you are visiting. Are you craving for a dessert? Try their giant scoops of ice cream. You shouldn’t miss their delicious, strong espresso either. If you are looking for a refreshing drink, the Aperol Spritz is a good choice. The beverage that has an orange-like flavour, is a mixture of Italian sparkling wine, bitter liqueur and soda.

Bardolino is famous for its great red wine. There are vineyards on the sunlit hills surrounding the town. We must taste this wine in a local wine cellar or restaurant.

Val di Sogno Beach

The Val di Sogno public beach is located south of Malcesine. We can rent lounges and sunshades on its pebbly beach. The beach is extremely popular among surfers and sailors. The Isolda del Sogno can be found only 20 metres from here, providing a perfect spot for scuba diving.

Spiaggia Sabbioni Beach

This perfect place at Riva del Garda has crystal clear waters and is a combination of a beach and a park. It’s suitable for families with small children. The great number of trees provide several places with shade. The beach is long and very well-equipped. There are both pebbly and grassy areas. You can also try watersports.

La Cavalla Beach

The pebbly public beach is a few metres from the centre of Garda. It can be accessed easily. You can rent lounges here, and there are great restaurants and bars as well. Thanks to its especially clear waters, the beach is extremely popular.

Moniga is one of the most modern and best-equipped ports at Lake Garda. It’s famous for its high level of service. It was built-in 2005, according to the highest architectural standards. Port of Navene di Malcesine

The Navene di Malcesine has more than 200 moorings, for instance, for powerboats. The running water and the electricity are free to access. You can find showers in the club house.
