Can you rent a yacht in Costa Brava – do I need a license?

Small boats (under a certain horsepower or length), electric boats, crewed yacht charters and gulet charters may not require a license. Larger boats or those with more powerful engines need a skipper’s license. Before you confirm your sailing trip to Costa Brava, please send us a copy and we will check it for you. You need to have the original copies with you on-board, so don’t forget to take them.
To sail in Spain, one of the following qualifications is necessary: • ICC (International Certificate of Competence), International, with valid Navigational and VHF licenses Prerequisites: RYA “Day Skipper Course” or complete the ICC Assessment form to prove competence from previous experience.
If you do not have a skipper license, it is also possible to rent a boat with a skipper

Attractions of Costa Brava

One of the most renowned and best botanical gardens, the Marimurta is located in the south of Costa Brava, in Blanes. On the 16 hectare area there are 6000 species of flowers and plants, but not only natives. You can find flowers and plants from all over the world here, like palm trees and bamboos. If you are longing for a breathtaking panorama, visit the viewing platforms on site. The Aiguamolls de l’Empordà National Park is a paradise for ornithologists since this is the second-largest wetland habitat in Catalonia. The area became a national park in 1983.

Barcelona is the second-largest city in Spain and an important port of the Adriatic Sea. The main sight here is the La Sagrada Familia – the Expiatory Church of the Holy Family, which is a World Heritage Site. Further famous sights include the Santa Maria del Mar cathedral and the Picasso Museum. The town centre has a green area called Parc de la Ciutadella; its fountain was inspired by the Trevi Fountain in Rome.

Cuisine of Costa Brava

The Catalan cuisine is the Mediterranean, it is influenced by Italian and French cuisine. The main ingredients are fish and olive oil, which come from local sources. Their typical dish is the picada that is prepared in numerous versions with different meats and vegetables. The sauce, the samfaina contains many vegetables and olive oil. Their famous sausage is the butifarra Blanca or white sausage. The paella and pa amb tomáquet are also very popular dishes, the latter is basically bread rubbed with tomato. Their dessert, the drema catalane is a vanilla cream with a hard caramel topping. The region is one of Europe’s largest wine regions.

Beaches in Costa Brava

Costa Brava has many breathtaking beaches to offer. Discover the most beautiful coastlines!

Cala de Sant Francesc (Blanes)

This pebble beach is also called Cala Bona. It is close to Marimurtra Botanical Garden. It is much smaller than the two other beaches of Blanes, the Sa Palomera and S’Abanell, with its 220-metres-long coastline. Nevertheless, we recommend you visit because it is located in a beautiful bay. Locals also love coming here.

Barceloneta Beach (Barcelona)

This is Barcelona’s most popular beach, but since it is close to the city centre it can be quite crowded. The beach is 422 metres long and has an average width of 79 metres. Barceloneta Beach is well-equipped with excellent service. In the summer season lifeguards look after the visitors. There are many restaurants and buffets along the coast.

Llafranc Beach (Llafranc)

If you want to avoid crowds and prefer to relax in calm conditions, Llafranc is a great choice. You can sunbathe on a clean, sandy beach and the slowly deepening water is perfect for families with small children. Would you like to try the specialities of local gastronomy? Choose from the Catalan delicacies and try Sangria, too.

Cala Futadera (Tossa de Mar)

Cala Futadera is located 6 kilometres northeast of Tossa de Mar. You can find this beach in a 100 metres long and 10 metres wide bay. The crystal clear water is perfect for snorkelling. If you like hidden places you should visit here, but please note that it has no services.
